How the NBA Replay System is Changing the Game

Image
The NBA, people watch it for the excitement of the game of basketball. All of the crazy plays and last second shots. But what people don't realize is how much the game has changed since the replay system came into the league.  "The NBA began using instant replay to review last-second shots after the 2001-2002 season. Since then, instant replay has been expanded..."(Allen). If you watch an NBA game now, there are replays and reviews all the time and many of them are game changing reviews. Back before the 2002 season, reviewing plays didn't happen. We simply just didn't have the technology for it. If a call was made, that was the call and there wasn't any changing it. That just goes to show how much the NBA has changed through technology throughout the years. The game has really evolved and we are witnessing it right now. Police are using current drone technology to their advantage, the Air Force not so much

Image
In Portsmouth, NH, police are using drones for safety purposes. Being a local NH native myself, I really thought about how these drones are being used and if they should be used. I understand the idea of using these drones. To keep more people safe and they are very useful, as one model takes infrared photos from up to 200 feet in the air able to see someone in a building below. Drone technology is evolving and being used more and more.  Personally, I don't really like the idea of using drones as much. I think it would be a good idea to use them to find people or help solve issues, but drones can malfunction and cause issues that can be prevented if drones weren't used.  Image of police drone Not only are local police using drones more now, but so is the US Air Force. The only difference is, the Air Force is trying to not use drones anymore. Months ago, Iran shot down a US drone over the Strait of Hormuz. The military is thinking that drones are becoming a lia...

Should we quit social media?

Image
Social media is something that plays a big role in my current everyday life. It's how I communicate with friends, see news and is just something I use a lot. After watching a TED talk on why we should quit social media, I didn't exactly agree with what Newport was saying. According to Cal Newport,(an assistant professor in computer science at Georgetown University) social media is, "not a fundamental technology, it's just a source of entertainment." I disagree with what he has to say here because it isn't "just" a source of entertainment. Sure, entertainment is a very big part of social media. But my main news source is social media. I talk to friends over social media when I'm not actually with them in person. I make plans, and know where I need to be at what time because of social media. Social media has helped me in so many ways.                                          ...

Killer Robots

Image
Killer robots isn't something I have really worried about or even thought about in the past. Now that it has drawn my attention, I think that we should think more about these autonomous weapons.  After doing some more research on killer robots, I was able to get a better understanding of what they really are. According to Human Rights Watch , many countries including the United States, United Kingdom, China and South Korea are making and using "killer robots." Armed drones being the main form of these weapons are being used in warfare. Could these lethal technological killers lead to something terrible beyond our control? According to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, these robots are, "morally repugnant and politically unacceptable." More countries are noticing this issue and speaking on it in order to make change. A non-governmental group known as The Campaign to Stop Killer Robots , is also acting upon this as an issue that needs to be dealt with. ...
